Vaishno Devi: Its Past and Present
To save the world from the demons’ oppression during the Treta Yuga, the goddess Vaishnavi—a synthesis of Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati—was born at Vaishno Devi. When these three Goddesses joined forces, they were able to protect Earth from the worst of the bad guys. The goddess Vaishnavi existed and aided individuals in need throughout her life.
While helping others, though, she was contacted by Bhairon Nath, a follower of a local saint. Goddess Vaishnavi, evading Bhairon Nath’s unwanted attention, retreated to a cave and spent nine months there, meditating. But when Bhairon tracked down Goddess Vaishnavi and made another approach, she transformed into Kali and destroyed him. His severed head landed somewhere, eventually becoming the Bhairon Baba Temple, which can be found in close proximity to the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. Later, Vaishnavi took the shape of three boulders that remain in the shrine to this day. Maha Saraswati, Maha Lakshmi, and Maha Kali are each represented by their own rock.

Visitors flock to Vaishno Devi at all times of the year. A larger number of tourists visit the shrine in the summer, especially during school breaks, although winter is the best season for those who want to hike up to the top. Typically, September through February is the best season to visit Vaishno Devi. However, when snowfall amounts are high enough to disrupt helicopter services, winters can be extremely challenging.
Vaishno Devi By Foot
Vaishno Devi Temple can be visited from Katra by foot, battery auto, or helicopter services offered by reputable companies. There are frequent trains to Katra from all of India’s main cities. From New Delhi, you can take a train to Jammu Tawi or Katra at any time of the day or night. We travelled between New Delhi and Katra on the brand-new Vande Bharat Express. As far as meals go, the ones on the train were the finest.
Approximately 12 kilometres from the temple is Katra, where you’ll find the Vaishno Devi base camp. Traveling this distance often takes between 5 and 6 hours, with stops along the way. Katra–Ban Ganga–Charan Paduka–Ardhkuwari–Bhawan is the route chosen for the same purpose (temple). We’ve reached Ardhkuwari, the trip’s halfway point. There are several rest spots with clean restrooms along the way.
The new path is well-managed by the Shrine Board, and it has a slight inclination.
Vaisno Devi By Helicopter
If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to get to the Vaishno Devi shrine, a helicopter ride is a great choice.
